Based out of Nashville TN, Juliana Hale is the rare
case where beauty, passion, talent, and intelligence
have infused to create a not just a pop singer or a
writer but an artist capable of captivating an audience
immediately. She has developed a unique sound with
her soulful voice that is catching fire and the attention
of industry leaders and fans.
From the first time she held a guitar, Juliana Hale knew she had an all-consuming love for making music. At the age of eight, she was singing, writing and playing for anyone who would listen. Growing up, Juliana Hale spent her time performing in local talent shows and community events before her family decided to move her dream from California to Nashville, where her musical journey took flight.
Though Juliana Hale isn’t even twenty years old, she’s overcome more obstacles than many artists face in a lifetime. Serious health problems threatened her ability to sing and nearly sidelined her for good. The young singer-songwriter spent much of 2016 and 2017 recovering from major surgery, but she’s fought through her problems and emerged stronger, smarter, and even more dedicated to her craft. With her troubles far in the rear-view mirror, Hale is ready to step on the accelerator and roar through 2019 and into the future.
Perhaps it’s those challenges that have given Juliana Hale a breath of vision rare among pop artists of any age. The native Californian (she now calls Nashville home) makes music that is fresh, ambitious, and uncommonly forthright. It's pop, for sure, but it’s pop that doesn’t disguise its idiosyncrasies or sugarcoat her storytelling. Released in summer 2018, Small Talk plays like a celebration of life, health, and personal discovery. Songs like “Anthem” and “Mannequin” sound modern for sure, but they’re positively old-fashioned in their commitment to honesty and communicative clarity. Even “Overrated,” a track fashioned for the club floor by producers Billy Dawson and Grammy-winner Skidd Mills, contained a profound message. It’s a statement of self-affirmation – a poem of purpose for a young artist coming into her own.
Juliana’s songs speak for themselves, and they’ve connected with listeners both on the radio – “Small Talk” is on the radio in 28 music markets – and on stage: she opened for Flo Rida at the 2018 Official Super Bowl Pre-Party hosted by Donny Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy, performed after Halsey at Commonground in 2018, and she’ll be playing SXSW 2019. “Cupid,” her new single, is her boldest step forward. This is Juliana Hale in the raw: it’s a piano, a muted bass, and the young star’s remarkable voice. There’s nothing in between the listener and Hale’s story of unrequited love – it’s brave, searing, and intoxicating in equal measure – and even the hardest of hearts won’t be able to hear this single without feeling something profound. The track is immersive and mesmerizing, and Hale’s performance is absolutely convincing. It’s just the latest missive from this remarkable new writer and singer, and there’ll be many more to come.
